On the afternoon of May 9th, the Lishui City Conference on the Development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Health Industry Chain was held. The conference arranged and deployed the work for the integrated development of the city’s entire TCM health industry chain, mobilizing all levels of the city to further unify their thinking, elevate their positions, and work together with determination and practical efforts. Building on previous work, the aim is to continuously push forward and create a new phase in the development of Lishui city’s TCM health industry.
In recent years, under the strong leadership of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, and with the concerted efforts of various counties (cities, districts), the Lishui Economic Development Zone, and relevant departments, Lishui city has achieved significant progress in accelerating the development of the TCM health industry. All regions across the city have closely focused on the “Three-Year Action Plan” and the “Five Ones” key tasks, comprehensively promoting the rapid development of the TCM health industry. Combining local characteristics and actual conditions, Liandu District, Qingtian County, and Songyang County have introduced exclusive policies to foster the TCM health industry. The linkage mechanism between cities and counties, as well as the communication mechanism between departments, has been further improved, collectively advancing the high-quality development of the TCM health industry.
The scale of the city’s Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) health industry has further expanded. Primary production cultivation has become more sizable, with an increase of 22,423 mu (a traditional Chinese land measurement unit) in the planting area of “Lishui’s Nine Herbal Medicines” last year, achieving a completion rate of 175.18%; 18,808 mu of four major characteristic herbal medicines were newly added, with a completion rate reaching 293.88%; six seedling bases, 20 standardized bases, and three “shared workshops” for primary processing have been established. The secondary industry manufacturing has gained more market share. In the past year, enterprises in the TCM health industry above designated size achieved a production value of 5.766 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, which is 8.1 percentage points higher than the overall above-designated-size industries. Among them, the annual sales revenue of the popular product “Conba Jindi Compound Houttuynia Cordata Mixture” reached nearly 350 million yuan. The tertiary industry development has become more distinctive, with continued promotion of 13 characteristic TCM health and cultural tourism projects such as the Suichang Caihe National Pharmaceutical Health Culture Industrial Park; The city has enriched its unique health tourism product system by launching five TCM health tourism routes and creating one provincial-level TCM cultural health tourism demonstration base.
At the same time, the development potential of the TCM health industry has been further stimulated. The support from scientific and technological talents has been continuously strengthened, with a cooperation agreement signed with Zhejiang University to jointly establish the Zhejiang University-Lishui Life and Health Joint Innovation Center. Project support has also been continuously enhanced, last year, 23 key TCM health projects were attracted, with a fixed asset investment amounting to 8.899 billion yuan, including seven projects exceeding 1 billion yuan and 19 secondary sector projects.
The conference outlined the next steps for the development of the city’s TCM health industry chain. The conference emphasized the need to firmly build confidence and determination, genuinely enhancing the sense of mission in developing the TCM health industry. It called for an awareness of potential challenges, a proactive mindset, and a spirit of striving to overcome the issues and difficulties in the development of the TCM health industry. The focus should be on key points, precisely advancing the main tasks of TCM health industry development, strengthening the primary sector, expanding the secondary sector, and optimizing the tertiary sector. Efforts should be sustained to enhance the brand’s reputation. Addressing pain points and obstacles, the support and guarantees for the development of the TCM health industry must be continuously reinforced by establishing and improving systems and mechanisms, ensuring comprehensive support, and creating an optimal development environment. The new developments and breakthroughs in the TCM health industry should drive the leapfrog, high-quality development of the city’s economy and society.
